We didn't have a religious war going on with them, and they were already industrialized nations. I'm also not sure we have the stomach to administer the kind of beating to Iraq that we gave to the Japanese, or Germans. The Japanese, after all, had taken over much of the pacific and attacked Pearl Harbor. The Germans had smashed through all of Europe before we came in to the war. The Saudis have the link with 9/11 not Iraq. There just isn't the same sort of justification for war. It would be nice (for your point of view) if there was a brilliant justification for destroying the leadership of Iraq, but there isn't. We have the greatest cause of action against the Saudis (greater than we had against Afghanistan, imo) but we won't touch them for political reasons. That's not a great foundation for a war that will make beneficial changes, if you want real change in the region.
