She rushes to the door but is too late. Although the erotic scents of wild sage and musty mule linger, all visible trace of Drygulch is gone, save for a little dusty cloud in the far distance. Momentarily she considers rushing after him, throwing her lot in with her beloved prospector, giving up this dream of a stressfree and peaceful place for weary investors, but no. She brushes a lock of gleaming gold hair from her forehead and turns back to the thread. Straightening her smooth, bare shoulders and taking a deep breath, she reenters, and trips over a stray GE toaster.
