Do penance; hence penitentiary<< sounds good to me. on the basis of principle, i am not opposed to the death penalty for cases of murder... however, part of my resistance to the death penalty today is the ability of politicians to commute sentences for political reasons (or worse)... that plus the cases of innocent people wrongly convicted and perilously close to execution. it's unfair to execute a convicted killer, and have the fellow in the next cell on death row have his sentenced commuted to "life"...basically at the whim of a politician. i would like to see all convicted murderers imprisoned in a federal facility for convicted murderers only. i like the idea of extreme isolation for murderers, no tv, no entertainment...maybe some books to read. also they should be required to do some form of manual labor, hopefully in a constructive way sufficient for them to "earn their keep" or pay for their own incarceration.
