Unrestrained crony favoritism is a deep habit they won't be able to break w/o a struggle -- If the economy deflates to the point where everyone is struggling to breathe it reduces bothersome questions for decision-makers creating better control over the masses. Watching the media, no one can imagine why anyone would want to keep promoting economic favoritism if it clearly sends the economy south.

Common sense shows the direction in Washington, even a schoolkid can see that, at least until they watch too much of the evening "news", which excludes anything resembling common sense. To the talking heads and hate-radio, everything is a huge surprise, and no one in the Bush League is reported to profit politically or financially from these actions. They're not even held accountable, the media is happy swallowing programmed remarks, instead of press conferences. It's so accepted no one in the press even remarks on this, you only hear when CNN's John King makes informal remarks on shows like "Daily Show"

No one reports on how medical costs, job reductions, exploding debt, and general hollowing-out of the economy benefits few, and indentures the rest.

Indeed.. just because you're cynical doesn't mean they're not out to get us ...<vbg>

National fear produced by economic, military and psychological terrorism creates political power. That's what the Boys in the "Power Band" do. If I didn't know better, I'd say that's all they do.

It would be comforting to impugn noble motives to power politicians, as the media tells us, but that has certainly proven to be a sure way to make wrong predictions. As JPM said, they do things for two reasons, "a good reason, and the real reason".
