It is very shocking, and very sad indeed. Having your own children die when the Israeli army attacks might put you on the fast track to apathy for the children of "the others", I suppose.

They are not apathetic. They throw parties. The Israelis do not rejoice over dead Palestinian kids, try to avoid killing them, and investigate their deaths.

A circle of hate and violence. Both sides are equally guilty, in my opinion, but I don't think you would agree to that.

If you think it's the same on both sides, recall the power imbalance. As we are reminded incessantly, the Israelis have tanks and Apaches and F-16s. The Palestinians just have rifles and mortars and explosives.

Now imagine reversing this dynamic. Fatah and Hamas get Israel's armament, and vice-versa. What happens next? Carpet bombing of Tel Aviv, I should think. Why hasn't it happened to Ramallah?
