Personally, I oppose the death sentence under any circumstances. I don't like the idea of life in prison sentences much either on the grounds of cruel and unusual punishment. As an alternative, why not put convicted murderers in suspended animation? We have the technology. It's cheap. It's secure. It's relatively humane. If the guilty person is later proven innocent, they can be revived and freed.
