Hawk, I dont understand the logic here. In a crude sense if I were to follow that logic, I could say "Canada does not deserve to be a separate country, it is almost like the US in many respects"...

Canada is a democracy. Jordan is a Arab, not Palestinian, Monarchy, thus an illegimate government. It was "bequeathed" to Abdullah by the British (he didn't even have to pay for the land as the Jews immigrating to Palestine were required to do).

And don't get me wrong. I'm not a Hashemite hater here. I much prefer them over the Saudi royal family as I perceive them to be more moderate. And certainly the current King Abdullah is very westernized and has a measure of respect from me.

But they are still an Arab monarchy ruling over a Palestinian population. And while there IS a parliament, the royal family retains most of the power in the country (which is probably a good thing since otherwise, Israel and Jordan would have probably been at war again).

Palestinians have a right to form their own country.

Hmmm... I would modify that to state that they have a right to TRY and form their own country. And consequently, the government currently controlling that territory has the right to oppose such efforts.

Otherwise, we'll have another civil war here in the US, as well as anywhere else that a non-majority ethnicity opts to claim they have a right to their own nation/state...

Can you imagine what would happen in India were your premise to be widely accepted??
