well, I have this theory....

One of the things that we have been doing by keeping the Iraq war drumbeat at a pretty heightened level, we may be trying to flush out terrorists who are poised to attack.

Here's my thinking, others have pointed out that once we attack Iraq, we should expect a terrorist attack here. That they are waiting for the event to do it and garner world sentiment because of the evil U.S. attacking Iraq unprovoked. So, instead of waiting for the next terrorist event to happen out of the blue, we are forcing the terrorists to prepare for an attack with the hopes of seeing their footprints and tracking them down before they can do real damage.

In other words, my idea is that we may be using Saddam as a convenient tool rather than someone who we really feel a threat from.

Pure speculation on my part.

But,

if we do attack Iraq, I think a terrorist attack on our soil is a given. That could be the event that does it.
