Good news? There is nowhere, out of this PR, that shows any sign of a recovery in telecoms.

A recovery in telecoms will only come by the time big operators have shed all the debts they carry right now.

Those operators that went on a buying spree gobbling up every foreign telco being privatized must throw overboard those foreign assets to lower debt.

They can't. Just look to TDC and Swisscom loaded up with Cesky Telekom. That because they will sell these assets for far less than they bought it.

Mean while they keep doing like Deutsche Telekom:

selling their telephone directory, Cable TV businesses, Data communications offshoot and ADSL businesses. But it is not enough. They have to sell their foreign assets!

If you want to feel the real pulse of telecoms, keep an eye on telcos selling foreign operations. The day you read WCOM sold Brazil's Embratel, it is going to be the day you will see the light on the end of the tunnel. Not before that.

Oh, by the way, if you read any PR telloing you about a deal, don't get too optmist either: Only price is selling now. Which means, those deals are just to keep going. No profits on them.
