As of this writing, January 2, 2003, I'm not aware of any direct proof Iraq is in possession of weapons of mass destruction.

I'm not posting to offer you "direct proof". But to ask a question. Why has Saddam elected to pursue a path for over a decade which has deprived his country of hundreds of billions of dollars of revenues? I'm referring to the economic sanctions placed on Iraq until it has dismantled all WMD's, ended WMD development programs, and cooperated fully with UN inspectors. It's well documented that Iraq didn't cooperate with the inspectors in the years prior to 1998. And since 1998, Iraq has not allowed inspectors back in until the US threatened invasion this past year. Now how can you explain this? If someone acts like they're hiding something and foregoes massive revenues in the process, isn't sort an indication that "hey, they must be really hiding something"? And whatever it is, must be pretty big and important and powerful or why pay the big price of sanctions?
