Lucent's 30 day moving closing trading average dropped below $1.00 on 10/17/02 and stayed below $1.00 for 24 trading days. It's actual closing low of $0.58 was reached on 10/11/02, six days before the 30 day moving average value went below a dollar. After 10/11/02, the stock has been steadily climbing in closing price and the 30 day moving closing average moved back above $1.00 on 11/20/02. It has steadily climbed the last 37 trading days to equal a 30 day average of $1.51 as of yesterday.

If the company felt that the stock price could maintain enough strength to stay at a 30 day moving closing average from now on, then there is no need to do a reverse split.

Reverse splits eventually almost always get watered down as time moves along after the split and not only do you wind up with less #'s of shares but you wind up with less total value as well.

Was all of the above confusing? ;-0
