<Market value of a job...> Hmmm, that's a can of worms. Did you see the satire piece someone published recently about CEO compensation of bankrupt companies. The writer suggested he was capable of running a company into bankruptcy for a lot less money than some existing CEOs were getting. What is the market value of CEOing a company in bankruptcy? Isn’t the whole issue just a question of how the pie gets sliced between owners/workers?

What do you mean by ‘pass laws’? Maybe you are thinking of this in a more narrow sense than me but I can think of things (tariffs, taxes, credits, currency manipulation) by which government can change the economics of trade to make it more or less profitable, and thereby impact the ability of domestic companies to make a profit paying a US wage? I can think of some situations where that would make sense.
