LPS5,

Solon's figures proved absolutely nothing as they were figures which included all states, some with DP, some without. An honest approach would have broken the data down to separate rates for DP and non DP states. Bill's article referenced several studies which at worst suggested deterrence. It is a simple fact of human nature that punishment for an act deters that act in at least some cases. It is incumbent on you to prove that in the DP's case this basic fact of human nature is not operative. To claim such is both counterintuitive and illogical. If deterrence saves any lives and it obviously does, those lives must be weighed against the possible, though unlikely, execution of an innocent.

If you oppose the DP because an innocent might be executed you have a valid position (though it abandons those that deterrence would save). To claim, as you did, that innocents have been executed is to state something you have now admitted you can't prove. To oppose it because it does not deter is to ignore both the evidence and common sense. If you actually read Bill's post you must realize that characterizing it as "one anecdotal report" is to exhibit intellectual dishonesty. If you didn't read it then claiming you did would be a simple lie. To compare Solon's data to the data in Bill's posted article is to compare low grade ore to the gold derived from it. The first is worthless without a lot of refinement, the latter is valuable as it is.

Re >[O]h incredible one.

Thank you. You know your place, I'll say that.<

Incredible = unbelievable

It does not surprise me that you (pretend to) think it is a compliment. Just more evidence of the level of your analysis (and honesty).

re > Run along now, unless you have further questions. In particular, if you don't intend
on addressing the issues I've raised in this post.<

Your condescension is silly considering the lack of logic you have displayed for the last couple days. It is also suggestive that you aren't nearly as sure of your position as you claim.

re >if you don't intend on addressing the issues<

Your inability to digest and deal with contrary facts is not me failing to address the issues, but you know that.
