But what about those who are carelessly promiscuous figuring that if they get pregnant they'll just get an abortion, and that's prefereable to messing with condoms or taking the pill? What about them, Chris? Maybe we should have them carry to term and then raise children they're obviously too immature to care for since they were too immature to use birth control. And then their children will grow up to be immature jerks, too. And maybe do a lot of damage to the responsible kids in the process. All this as their punishment for being irresponsible. Yeah, that metric makes a lot of sense... Or maybe to avoid that we should force them to give the kids up for adoption, taking away their parental rights. Now there's someplace we want to go. After all, if we take away reproductive rights by outlawing abortion, I guess we could take away the rights to decide to keep a baby to which one has given birth. Lose one right, lose another, and so on... I understand those who say "so what about." It's a legitimate question. We try to disabuse them of their bad judgment, that's what. We try to imbue in our kids a sense of our humanity. Or we make the cost of abortion higher and the cost of birth control or producing a baby for adoption economically attractive. But we don't design our culture around the lowest common denominator and expect that culture to be elevated as a result. All you get is an even lower common denominator and less sense of responsibility.
