I agree. Every slump has an ending. It's usually right at the very end that the doomsayers make their loudest pronouncements.

But...every now and then...the slump goes on a bit longer than you think.
Doomsayers are like a stopped watch. They are right occasionally. Unlike a stopped watch, however, they tend to thump their chests and engage in schadenfreude. Much like a stopped watch, they do little to assist in fixing the problems. The people who suffer the most in a downturn - the long term investors - are the ones who pull themselves out. They are good at what they do because of 2 things: they are continually optimistic, and they have learned to bootstrap in the worst circumstances.

Ayn Rand knew a thing or two about these types of people.
