Thanks for the link to the Judis book. I am aware of the book and it's overlap with my thinking. It is on my list of books to read. I think he and I are picking up similar structural changes.

You wouldn't be surprised to discover that I am a skeptical of the DLC. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.


this emerging consensus leaves the American urban poor, and the cities in which they live, behind. But that's another long argument for another thread.


The problems facing most US cities over the next 20 years are manifold and frightening. The economic forces, rooted in the Industrial Revolution, that led to the modern city are less and less relevant. Cities will be a major political topic soon. Of course, I suspect we might have different ideas about a solution. This thread will never know for sure, though.
