>>>You don't vote, you're vote doesn't count. But we all know that.<<<

Very convenient, however, for the politicians not to have to appeal to the whole of American society though, ain't it?

Don't you think American politicians have it a bit easier given they only have to appeal to 25-27 percent of the national population; 16-17 percent of the statewide population and 8-9 percent of the municipal population? I do. Indeed, they're pretty good at grabbing the Tuesday-only vote! And I remind you the percentage of primary voters is much, much less.

You see, the way it happens is you, the candidate, join this party or that party and the winner of the nomination gets the party's support. Then it's a matter of location, location, location: depending what region you're running from, you're up or down on abortion, up or down on capital punishment, up or down on gun control and the crime and drugs issues are free ride for all.

Meanwhile, the money pours in from the respective lobby groups and this helps not only to secure your base, but importantly enables you tap into that sliver of difference to you over the top. Once elected, the lobby money gets very easy and you win over and over and over. Pretty much. Ain't that the way it is?

>>>Gee, I don't remember any reports of your top 10% mounting machine guns to keep the other 90% from voting.<<<

I guess the drug war takes the place of those machine guns. Ever stop to think the drug war keeps people down, disenfranchised, unparticipative, etc.? Voting mostly during working hours certainly doesn't help poor folk much either.

>>>There are countries where voting is mandatory. Do you think they are better?<<<

No. But I do think voting could be made much, much easier in America. Do you agree?

>>>PartyTime: Funny, I never ever really thought of the top 10 percent of the people in this country as the only Americans who count.

Lazarus: Name me a country where the elite DO NOT have more influence than the non-elite. Actually, I think that goes into the definition of that word "elite".<<<

Hey, egos live everywhere. But I suspect when it comes to going to war it's more a matter of appeasing that top 10 percent, rather than the rest of the nation.

>>>Which would you prefer? Mao's People's Republic of China? Stalin's Union of Soviet Socialist Republics? Ceaucescue's Rumania? Which socialist cesspool do you prefer?
Which one?<<<

Well, they used to have collective farms in the Soviet Union; in America we've got corporate farms with the small farmer pretty much taken out. Me? I like the small farmer idea. I also like the Pet Rock and the Hula Hoop. Indeed, I like competitive markets. I suppose it's like sports when the back-up quarterback goes in--everyone's rooting for him. I don't like it when the fix is in and I don't like it when the imblance becomes too great that deprivation and kept poverty become the norm, whether here or anywhere. In a nutshell, that's sorta how I feel. How 'bout you?

That's the trouble with you clowns. You can't recognize reality when it comes up and hits you in the head with a 2X4.
