Chrétien repeats support for UN on Iraq

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said Wednesday that Canada would participate in an attack on Iraq only if it were approved by the United Nations Security Council — comments that appeared to contradict his Defence Minister.

At the same press conference, the Prime Minister later refused to rule out possible Canadian action outside the UN purview - while insisting that Canadian policy on the issue was "very, very clear."
