sheesh-

syllable:

dictionary.reference.com

A unit of spoken language consisting of a single
uninterrupted sound formed by a vowel, diphthong, or
syllabic consonant alone, or by any of these sounds
preceded, followed, or surrounded by one or more
consonants.

How many syllables in the following line and could you mark them out please...

26 syllables of beer on the wall...

I | watch | my | kids | throw | sand |-balls | at | each | oth | er | on | the | beach,| the | rules | of | neat | ness | stand | sus | pen | ded | for | the | day.

this sentence is like regular prose and does not qualify
as a haiku because it is over-syllabic. <simile>
