Dale, I don't think it was about AA, it was payback to the conservatives for the White House going too far on race during the Trent Lott affair. It's also a bone for them due to the weak reception for the tax cuts.

If not for Trent Lott, there would probably have been little mention of the UofM stuff by the executive branch, IMO.
