Samsung CC notes....

As usual, they provide more detailed numbers than any other company I have ever followed.

samsungelectronics.com

- 11.6 million units during the 4th Q vs 11.7 during Q3. They expect around 13 million units during the 1Q '03

4Q '02 1Q '03 (est)
GSM 6.1m 6.1m
CDMA 5.0m 6.6m

CDMA units were down sequentially from 5.2 million during the 3rd Q.

- Regional Breakdown

4Q '02 1Q '03 (est)
Korea 17% 16%
NA&SA 30% 26%
Eur 23% 24%
Asia 30% 35%

I think their shipments to India were delayed a little bit from the 4th to the 1st quarter. Total export units were 9.5 million and domestic was 2.1 million units.

- Domestic ASP 406,000 Won ($348)
Export ASP $185

Unfortunately I have been lazy over the last couple of quarters and havent been posting the Samsung notes....but the domestic ASP seems HUGE. The latest numbers I can find are 329,000 Won domestic and $176 export from the 4th Q '01.

They expect domestic and export ASP's to remain flat during the 1Q. Export ASP's should trend up over the year as more features are added.

- Feature Breakdown

Q4 '02
Domestic Export
Color 87% 18%
Camera 24% n/a

'03
Total Market Samsung
Color 40% 60%
Camera 10% 20-30%

- They shipped 300,000 EV-DO handsets during '02 (2% of shipments). They expect 60% of domestic handsets next year to be EV-DO.

- An analyst asked about a possible shortage of Qualcomm chipsets. They responded that there was a little bit of a shortage in Q4 but they dont expect any problems in Q1.

- They estimate the overall market to be 435 million units in '03 (410 million in '02). They are aiming for 12% marketshare.

'03 (est)
GSM 29m
CDMA 21m

If you look at the breakdown for the first quarter vs. the rest of the year you can see that the first quarter makes up 31.4% of the total. They are either being VERY conservative for the full year (much more than on the GSM side) or they anticipate a slowdown later in the year. They were asked about this but didnt give a very good answer (or I didnt understand them).

- They believe that they have a fairly clean inventory situation.

Now I remember why I was lazy <g>.....they literally drown you in information.
