That's such blatant corruption, to hand an industry lobby the right not only to stifle their competitors with punitive tariffs, but to directly enrich themselves on the proceeds .... can't imagine a circumstance where that could be other than pure corruption .... this Byrd after whom that amendment is named, he was a southern dixiecrat wasn't he .... ee-yup, i just put 'byrd dixiecrat' into google and got a whole lot of hits

Traditionally the democrats have been the protectionists and the republicans the party of free trade? ... generally speaking, of course there are spectrums on the question within each party likely, and political urgencies within ridings at times no doubt .... but i did notice quite a few republican legislators on the list of those opposing this obscenity of a pine lobby .... so how would they ram those tariffs through in an administration controlled by republicans??

No tariff on drunken provincial premiers apparently ... that's probably a good thing, we produce a fair number of them
