Indonesia PT Telkom Invites Samsung, Ericsson To Develop Network

Indonesia's state telecommunications company, PT Telkom, has invited two world-class vendors, Samsung and Ericsson, to develop infrastructure for fixed wireless telephones.
A reliable source in Telkom's national headquarters said the infrastructure to be developed will be based on the Code Division Multi Access (CDMA) 2000 1-X technology as part of Package I of the T-21 Partnership Program. The source said Samsung and Ericsson are scheduled to install nearly 1.6 million fixed wireless telephone lines under contracts spanning 42 months until 2006.
Ericsson will be given a quota of 631,800 lines, and Samsung 802,000 lines.
In addition to installing 631,800 lines, Ericsson will also be asked to develop a base station subsystem (BSS) and to set up a CDMA 2000-based network in Telkom's Regional Division II in Jakarta.
This will form part of Package I of the T-21 Partnership Project for Jakarta and Sumatra.
The development of the fixed wireless telephone network will cost US$116 per line, thus making a total of US$73 million for construction by Ericsson.
Telkom's public relations office was quoted in the company's internet site as saying that Samsung will install 802,000 lines in Regional Division IV in Central Java, Regional Division V in East Java, Regional Division VI in Kalimantan, and Regional Division VIII in Eastern Indonesia, as part of Package II of the T-21 Partnership Project.
The cost for each line of the development is the same as that built by Ericsson, thus making a total of about US$93 million for construction by Samsung. |
