I just got an e-mail saying my new computer has been shipped, should be here Wed, although I won't be home 'til Thurs.
Ended up with CPQ (HPQ) Pentium 4, 3.06 Ghz; 120 GB hard drive, 512 RAM, GeForce 4200 video card. $1615, but I have a mail in rebate for $150 on the CPU.
Price check ...HPQ was about $60 more, with 80GB hard drive, slightly slower CD burner, and offered the rebate, too.
Dell was $700 more, and , at the time I was looking, said the 3.06 CPU wasn't available 'til 3/11; they used Radon 9700 video card, which I believe is their 2nd best, about = GeForce 4200. They weren't offering the rebate on the Pentium,so I guess it is actually almost $900 more.
Gateway was almost $1000 more, with 200GB harddrive and the Radon 9700. I don't think it came without a monitor,so the price includes the cheapest they offered. Also no mention of the rebate., so ends up almost $1150 more.
I didn't check IBM this time, but I recall it was fairly expensive.
