joser- i watched that race last knight too. great race. i heard them talking about spanking the monkey too. it was explained a few minutes later that they were talking about a device they have on these boats that runs a razor down the leading edge of the keel and the rudder to cut and remove any sea weed they may have picked up after sailing through an area of seaweed. using that device is referred to as "spanking the monkey". the similarity to clappy's definition is obvious. <g> -spanky
