The Office/Java/home idea is three steps removed from reality:

Step One: The idea that the home market wants to receive its applications code anew each time it boots up. Huh? As a home user, I certainly don't want to be vulnerable to a network delivering my apps. I like my hard disk just fine thank you!

Step Two: The idea that Java can ever outperform the regular compiled languages. Java will only win out when speed is not an issue. Unfortunately, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases are all performance-intensive.

Step Three: The idea that you would want office applications in this mode. These big, feature-rich applications are not the arena where Java makes sense. Let Java be Java, please.

One can have the Java religion and still not comprehend this idea of a Java-coded Corel Office for home users.

And no, I don't think the public is interested in kiosks running Java Office!!!
