Ratdog, have been following the S. American situation. I think our country is trying to topple both the Venezuelan Pres and Brazilian Pres. Both countries are trying to get out from under US imperialism and interference in S. America. This is a no, no, for US whenever a country wants to exert independence.
Both countries are aligned w/Castro and the Bush man must be nervous since he has had no time for foreign policy in our own hemisphere. Watch for future U.S. promoted propaganda re Pres. Chavez of Venezuela, U.S. is trying to make a tie with him and Alqueda(Middle East terrorist). With our troops in Columbia, I think we are going to get actively involved in removing (by deception) the Pres. Venezuela & Pres. of Brazil, if they don't behave our way.

Also, if you notice that our Mexican foreign policy is quite liberal, open border, Bush is even considering Soc.Sec. for aliens working here and then returning to Mexico. My theory on this generous benefit to Mexico is that Bush is trying to use Mexico as a buffer (almost like a 51st state to the south) a buffer from potential terrorists coming in from the rest of S. America thru Mexico. With our policy towards Mex., they are good guards at their Southern border, stops all problems for us. Most Americans are unaware, a high percentage of S. America is anti-American because of our imperialistic policies. It is getting ready to explode.
