Iraq: Baghdad would lay down the conditions of an exile of Saddam
Baghdad laid down the conditions of a possible departure in exile of the head of the Iraqi State Saddam Hussein, affirms Friday hebdomaire German DER Spiegel in its edition on line, quoting diplomatic sources in Dubaï and Cairo. A list of claims was given to Arab and Western diplomats, according to the magazine. It includes/understands the departure of the American soldiers of the area of the Gulf, the end of the mission of inspection in disarmament of UNO and the lifting of the sanctions against Iraq. For Baghdad, measures will have moreover to be taken against the production in Israel of weapons of massive destruction, according to DER Spiegel which affirms to hold its information of three diplomats, two Arabs and a Westerner. Lastly, the United States and Europe should commit themselves not continuing Saddam Hussein and its close relations in justice. A possible place of exile could be a African country, adds DER Spiegel, which does not give additional precise details on this point. Iraq vigorously contradicted insistent rumours of negotiations for the departure of its leader, which circulate since last week. (SCG)
