MEHER BABA:
Hello again! Thanks for the comments and the link to the Meher Baba material on "Sanskaras". It brought back memories of some of my earlier travels.
When I visited Meher Baba's burial tomb in Ahmednagar about 30 years ago I was really struck by one item in particular when I met Meher Baba's consort, Mehera, and Eruch (who had spoken for Baba--as you know Meher Baba was silent and communicated through gestures), and others, I was hit over the head by the fact that I had NEVER met any group of such LOVING people before. All different, but all very simple, clear, expressive and LOVING. If anybody wanted to know what the impact of a Guru is in a person's life, here was the testimony to that in a very tangible way.
Meher Baba confounded many people by referring to the time in the future when he would "break my silence". Then in 1969 he dropped his body without doing so! Without knowing that had occurred, a long-time Baba devotee Fred Marks (who was a friend of mine) the day after the "death" met Meher Baba outside his apartment in Richmond-on-Thames, England!
He was completely surprised by this and said "Baba, I thought you were in India!". Meher Baba replied: "Yesterday I was, today I am everywhere". They talked for a couple of minutes, I think Fred said he touched Baba's arm to assure himself that there was a physical presence there, and shortly after Meher Baba stopped speaking and VANISHED.
When I was on retreat with Adi Da in Fiji in 1995 I spoke with Adi Da about my earlier involvement with Meher Baba. He asked me many questions. I (referring to Meher Baba's not breaking his silence while embodied) asking him:
"Are YOU the breaking of Meher Baba's silence?"
His answer was "Tcha" (a unique word he uses when he indicates complete assent to something).
Namaste!
