msft has had this "no growth", desktop OS is losing its power, image problem for 3-4 years though. They didn't really participate in the runup in 99, (neither did Dell) because they didn't have any real new tech to offer, imo. They also had the monopoly issues of course but I never felt that was their primary issue. Oracle was in that same boat once but after the 8i engine was released it became clear oracle software is a must-have for the internet and will grow alongside.
