$40/barrel oil should firm support for an occupation of a post Saddam Iraq to not only foster and manage the transition to democracy, and to ensure efficient rebuilding and development of the Iraqi oil fields and facilities, but to also enhance overall oil security. There is far too much at risk to allow "fate" to fill the brief vacuum that will be left by Saddam's departure.

A secure supply of oil at a reasonable price is necessary for a strong US economy. A larger and permanent US presence is required in the middle east to safeguard oil supply and Iraq would make a good central base. In addition to terrorism and rogue states seeking WMD's, there is also the threat from competition for the same diminishing oil resources by British, French, Russian, Indian and Chinese national interests. A US military and economic occupation of Iraq would provide the stability in the middle east for a more secure and stable world oil market.
