I disagree with this : "Education within the current SYSTEM is lost. All the leadership is about, is functioning, not educating. The system is dysfunctional and so the dialog remains how to correct the dysfunction"
Education is not lost, and it proceeds at an acceptable rate in most places. Most of the leadership is well intentioned, and they are interested in educating. People generally don't go into education if they aren't interested in education. I disagree that they are only interested in functioning.
The leadership may have a different vision that you have, but that does not make them uninterested.
That said, I am interested in seeing more schools turned into learning laboratories where we can try out different educational strategies in line with new research on learning. Then, I would like to see our public schools implement what works, whatever that turns out to be. I am interested in doing whatever is necessary to make our public schools outstanding, without regard to the ideology of the left or the right. I don't want to see the politics of the left or the right hijack the educational interests of America's children. Education shouldn't be a political football. It should be about teaching mainstream accepted ideas, in the best ways possible. We should leave anything doubtful, left OR right, to the parents to inculcate at home. I'm not very interested in dismantling the public schools though. That goes against my principles, and my practical experience. |
