You can't make the case for an Iraqi invasion with the absolute necessity of "nation building" afterwards any better than Ajami does. While his prose is, as usual, near poetic, and while he appears to be hitting the difficult spots, I think the text ignores the most difficult spot, though I suspect he is more than aware of it, and that is the US' history in these things. With the exception of the end of WWII, we don't tend to stick around and build. We tend to ally ourselves with local dictators who won't contravene US interests. Perhaps it will be different this time. It better be. As many here say, the world is different since 9-11 and we all know that we are now vulnerable to reprisals in ways we never imagined.
