Even Bush disagrees with you:

story.news.yahoo.com
Bush believes that protesting "is a time-honored part of American tradition and it's a strength of our democracy," White House spokeswoman Jeanie Mamo said

You said about Venezuelan protests - Presuming that their vote is powerless, then demonstrations are the next step

That's exactly what the protestors think here in the U.S.

Anyone who thinks tens or hundreds of thousands around the country travel hundreds of miles simply to stand in the cold to listen to various speeches just for fun? That's amazing...

I chalk that up to you having a poor opinion of anyone who disagrees with your POV, and misplaced faith in the representations made in the media.

I've seen it all before -- being a target of protests in the 60's, then watching how the news media and gov't twisted events, seeing confirmation in the Pentagon Papers of total cynicism at the top levels. I then discovered the media and our gov't are experts at lying to us, and do so on a daily basis as it becomes their perceived interest to do so.

The kind of people who join protest marches and make trouble for legitimate activities of others are often the kind who have no other occupation or priorities of their own

Wishful thinking -- In spite of media bias the stories report "diverse crowd", like retirees, credit union worker, Methodist minister, carpenter, elderly women in wheelchairs, families with small children..."
