Flag Resources (1985) Limited and Golden Briar Mines Limited Drilling by Rathbun Lake Occurrence, Rathbun Township, Wanapitei Anomaly, Sudbury, Ontario
CALGARY, Jan. 20 /CNW/ - The Rathbun Lake Occurrence is a small surface occurrence of rich massive sulphides, located on the southeast shore of Rathbun Lake. In Ontario Geological Report 213, 1982, Dr. Burkhard Dressler reported that a selected grab sample, from the dump of the small shaft, sunk on the Occurrence assayed. << Copper Nickel Silver Gold Platinum Palladium 10.2% 0.14% 2.22 oz 0.02 oz 0.058 oz 34.6 oz per ton per ton per ton per ton >> In the report, Dr. Dressler made the observation "The mineralogical observation by the author of this report (OGS 213) and the description in the Assessment Files Research Office, OG.S.. Toronto, indicate that the mineralization found ------------------- possibly were parts of a bigger sulphide body during the intrusion of the gabbro into the Huronian sedimentary rocks or dislocated from it by the faulting of the intrusion." In exploring for the suggested larger sulphide body, Flag, in 1988, drilled RL88-1, a 1000 foot 45 degree hole from the Occurrence into Rathbun Lake. The structure intersected, in the drill hole, included 287 feet of very magnetic sedimentary rock, from 303 to 586 feet. Subsequently, Flag gave associated Golden Briar Mines Limited the right to earn a 50 % interest in the Rathbun Lake area by completing exploration expenditures of $500,000. To further explore for the suggested large source of the Rathbun Lake Occurrence, it was proposed to drill a vertical hole 200 feet west of the Occurrence, into and through the large magnetic intersection discovered in RL88-1. Because of unusual mild winter conditions in the past decade, Golden Briar had to wait until this winter for the ice to be thick enough to support drilling equipment. Taking advantage of the long awaited favorable ice conditions, Golden Briar expects to commence the vertical drill hole, 200 feet west of the Occurrence, shortly. Flag also hopes to commence, shortly, its announced winter exploration program, in other sectors of its 70,000 acre holdings in the Wanapitei Anomaly, including:
a) drilling a 2300 foot long ground conductor found in the vicinity of the Jess Lake gold deposit in Mackelcan Township
b) drilling a ground conductor 213 feet west of the gold, and also nickel - bearing sulphides and chalcopyrite in pyrite - rich quartz veins at Cobalt Hill (600 feet east of Jess Lake).
c) exploring the Jess Lake gold deposit to a depth of 2000 feet
d) further exploratory work at Boland Lake, Rathbun Township, where RL99-1, a vertical drill hole, intersected blebs of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite, in magnetite and quartz rich gabbro, from 154 to 290 feet and from 630 to 865 feet.
Flag also proposes, between March 1st and 15th, to commence an initial $114,800 exploration program on Flag's Exploratory Licence of Occupation, near the northeast flank of the Sudbury Structure and across Lake Wanapitei to the west, from its 70,000 acre holdings in the Wanapitei Anomaly. |
