Well, a whole lot of fokes are still after King's head, even though the guy is dead. And many of these fokes are simply not to be trusted, especially since they use crap taken or even dang made up by a dang hostile FBI. That alone ought to cause us to shudder about government.
Whatever his failings, King did a number of honorable things and is worthy of honor. We don't reject King David's historical contribution, despite that he both committed adultery and murder. Heck, Peter flatly denied the Christ and yet we still honor him as an apostle. Thomas Jefferson was quite a hypocrite and coward, even being threatened with impeachment for his behavior. JFK was an adulterer and on and on...
These men are yet all honorable because their contributions were genuine, helped millions across the whole world and came from their very flawed and human personalities. Unlike Bill Clinton, they did not present their failings as virtues. So I can forgive them their failings and honor them for their clear goodness.
We may not agree with the whole man (I don't agree with the whole of Dubya), but try as we might we cannot dismiss or destroy MLK's memory. The guy was a great American, human just like the best of them, but great nevertheless. |
