"That's a no brainer in my mind,..."

Euthanasia is a no brainer? The term means "mercy killing." That encompasses far more than eliminating undesirable life support technology (pulling the plug).

There are raging debates about people who have lost health and or mental faculties and in which the wealth of the stake holders associated with an estate is being drained or plundered in the process.

Assisted suicide: There is stepping onto an iceburg when you've had enough with a fond fairwell from the fam...You can throw a big pre-wake and OD at the finale... Drive off a cliff...etc....You can sign the paperwork to have medical support systems blocked... or just stop eating...and away you go.

Mercy killing involves intervention from another party. There may be some cross over situations where the person is clearly acting on your behalf and according to your wishes. There are other situations where that can only be assumed. In a mercy killing, someone else must take an active hand in killing you. This is typically more than being there for you when you commit suicide. Every situation is unique and everytime a decision by the actor who ends your life (with or without your stated permission) qualifies for differences in opinion.
