Very interesting, although I'm not convinced that Intel would buy Gateway (or convinced by most anything else Dvorak says). Intel still represents the primary brand decision element for the end user, if that ever starts to change to the box makers owning more brand equity than Intel, it will be a new challenge and completely different challenge. As the industry matures and consolidates, we see increasing share (and brand power) for Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM (grrrr) and Gateway.

I would prefer that Intel didn't have to produce computers, but as the market matures, I'm not sure they will be able to avoid it.
