That's why I wondered what Eric Alterman was trying to point out when he compared the two. Was that article you posted earlier a fair representation of Sullivan?

Yes, I think it was, and I think that Alterman got a cheap shot in at Sullivan. (I am not usually an Alterman fan, but I thought it worth noting that the anti-war marches were so tilted toward anti-Americanism that even Alterman, a left-wing journalist, was worried about the repurcussions)

Sullivan can be a bit of a blowhard at times, and he seems to have a talent for making enemies and keeping them (for instance, there is no love lost between Sullivan and Howell Raines, editor of the NY Times), but he's an intelligent man and a stylish writer. I recommend reading his articles and his blog ( andrewsullivan.com ). Sullivan certainly doesn't deserve to be compared to Cockburn or a nut like Ramsey Clark.

Extreme ideological opposition, imo. Sullivan is a neocon.
