Let's not underestimate what "they're" doing. They are also labeling people who have different views from their own, as America haters. Not a pretty sight, is it? Disagreeing with the policy of the government is as patriotic as not disagreeing, if the intent is to make America a better place (and frequently it entails more difficulties to disagree, since the power of the state is occasionally wielded unjustly against those who engage in the democratic exercise of their right to speak out.)

Of course from the founding of America people have been calling each other names. The scandalmongers at the time of the revolution did exactly what people today are doing- name calling, branding people as traitors, exposing sexual peccadillos. blah blah blah. How little things change.
