If those financial results looked too good to be true, in a record number of cases they were, according to a new study showing a 22% jump in restated financial results in 2002 that wiped out billions of dollars in previously reported revenue.

Restatements last year totaled 330, up from 2001's 270 tally, according to the report by Huron Consulting Group LLC, a Chicago firm that specializes in forensic accounting, restructuring and other financial-advisory services.
