<< One need not deny that in the justice system (as in the Church, or in any field of life) there are sexual deviants, mental deviants, and persons of defective characters and deficient ethics. >> Sure, the system is not perfect. But, the final decision is made by juries, and if those jurors decide that a piece of garbage is to be "taken out", and then after many appeals no finding is made that the criminal should not be executed, then the death penalty should be carried out. << Prejudging the convicted as wrong and the guys with the uniforms and guns as right is neither being vigilant nor sensible. >> There is no doubt that there are bad cops and bad judges, but those are in the minority. Taking the attitude that the convicted are always innocent, and the cops are always bad, is neither being vigilant nor sensible. I firmly believe that most people on death row deserve their punishment, some more than others. There are too many appeals and safeguards built into the system, and now, with the advent of DNA, there are even more safeguards against executing the wrong guy. How do you feel about bring back hangings? It is much less expensive. |
