Jon, In June 1996, the FED introduced the "Date Change Initiative". The initiative requires that all financial institutions have a plan in place (for Y2K) by Q3 1997, and complete conversion work by December 1998. IMO, Mr. Greenspan will comment on the progress of the banking industry in meeting this initiative.

Isn't it interesting how the Y2K hype started in earnest right after this initiative was launched?

BTW, my bank went to two year limits on credit cards a few years ago. The reason was loss prevention, not Y2K. They won't start issuing cards that expire in 2000 until next year.
Regards, Bill
