I am responding to your term "no brainer" in the context of the issue of euthanasia. You also categorized you comment under assisted suicide. Your most frequent post is regarding the illegality of a failed simple one party suicide attempt.

The world would be easier to take if things were black and white. I think that you now agree the broad category of "euthanasia" is a messy area. Mercy Killing is in the eye of the killer, sometimes the killee, and more rarely the audience of humanity. When there is some question about the status of mercy we have meat for debate.

In the case of assisted suicide we sometimes have to take the word of the next of kin that these are the wishes of the person being assisted. We have the same quandary as in Mercy killings.

In the case of the legitimacy of suicide. We have as individuals some level of obligation to choose a course for ourselves while we must also maintain a sence of reference and responsibility for our effect(s) on humanity. These things are not tragically at odds. In fact, if you take a look at most suicide notes you see that the reasons for peoples choice to commit suicide is in part to leave a lasting effect on those left behind.
