you pay the same for a bond at par as you do for one trading at 20% of par. so, you pay 5 times as much in commissions for the same purchase amount. besides, you get killed by the spread. and this is even with deep discounters - where you have very cheap commissions on stock- and good execution, too. supposedly, bonds will be traded cheaply on the internet soon.
