"Euthanasia is your word."

Correction...Eutanasia was Ish's word. You responded with a comment about his statement. I offered my input after that.

"I don't see anything murky about that."

"Suicide should not be illegal." The legitemacy question is a little murky all by it self. Legal or illegal are terms we use to address the behavior of persons who can be taken to court (as members of society) and held accountable for their actions. Obviously when one has passed from Earthly existence we no longer have the medium to hold them accountable for this type of choice....Unless someone wants to hold a corpse on trial.

The legallity question is pointed at persons who are considering suicide, and would be implimented only for persons who attempt suicide but fail and are still amongst us. What is their status now that they are still amongst us? They have consciously attempted to end their membership in humanity. Having failed they are now faced with continuance. We have no choice but to label their status. Members of humanity impact one another by their very presence like it or not. It does imply mutual recognition and regard for the needs of one another, and this is the basis for most questions about legality. Do we insist that the suicidal person is a non-entity, an individual no longer accountable to the membership. Does the membership give them the "right" to disengage? Then, do you deny them psychiatric treatment? Do you separate them from the participating members? Do you offer full membership or deny all services and options afforded to a member of humanity? Fine with me, you say you are suicidal, see ya later. You exercize your right to exit stage left. You are no longer a member...What you are still here monday morning asking to have your stomach pumped and stitches on those laserations...no deal... your membership was self revoked...or was it? That would indicate a measure of illegitimacy. Often times the suicidal person leaves a note with their own charges against humanity. They take action to punish humanity in their own court of "you'll be sorry once I am gone and have abandoned you." What legitamate status do you now represent? A re-entry? Do you wink and pretend they are still active participants and ignore their claims that they are not? What do you propose?
"murky" is the very word I would use.

You can just keep stating that you do not think it should be illegal with no futher justification that you think a person has the right to die when and how they please, if you want. I consider it much more complicated than that and I have noted several issues that impact the legitimacy question that you have not responded to except to say that it is not.

"Assisting someone in suicide should not be illegal."

Once you unmurkify suicide for me I will attempt to look at the helper situation.
