Plenty of people die in auto crashes who do not meaningfully choose the risk: minors, pedestrians, persons who are mentally challenged, for example.

Minors and persons who are mentally challenged have people legally assigned to incur risk on their behalf; whether their guardians do so wisely or not is a whole other matter.

Pedestrians certainly do incur risk on their own behalf. They may not think about it, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

Consent is not a meaningful dividing line.

I don't think you really mean this, but it wouldn't be inconsistent with only "car[ing]" and "trust[ing] that the government works pretty well," either.

The argument is perfectly good.

In your opinion, yes it is.

I am sorry if you do not think that the System works, as we used to say.

I don't know what specific "[s]ystem" you're talking about, but you're right, there's a good chance that I think it doesn't work. And I accept your apology.
