CheckFree's Stock Kites On FY03 Outlook

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Shares of CheckFree Corp. (NasdaqNM:CKFR - News) rose nearly 12% in late trading Tuesday after the company reported better-than-expected fiscal second-quarter pro forma earnings and raised its earnings guidance for fiscal 2003.

The electronic bill payment provider's shares rose 11.8%, or $1.98, to $18.70 on the news. The stock ended the regular trading session down 3.4%.

CheckFree reported a second-quarter pro forma profit of 20c share, 3 cents better than expectations. Still, on a net income basis the company lost 13 cents a share, narrower than the $2.47-a-share loss a year earlier.

But CheckFree also raised its fiscal 2003 outlook to a range of 74 cents to 77 cents a share from 58 cents to 62 cents. . .
