USD100 oil price says Yamani

Posted: January 22nd, 2003

The former Saudi oil minister from the 1970s oil crisis, Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani, has predicted a global disaster if the US attacks Iraq with oil prices reaching USD80-100 per barrel. He told AFP that a military operation against Iraq would cause damage to the Iraqi oil wells and confessional unrest in the country which would lead to a strong increase in oil prices and a weakening of the world economy.

Opec says prices out of its control

Posted: January 22nd, 2003

Opec secretary general Alvaro Silva said that the oil cartel could do nothing more to bring oil prices down. He told agencies that the threat of war and the strike in Venezuela was totally outside the control of Opec. But he said there was currently no shortage of oil on the market and that extra oil supplies for the US would arrive by March.
