Verity Ships IntelliServ, an Advanced Knowledge
Management Application for Windows NT

Enables Delivery of Personalized Information to Individuals and Workgroups Across the Enterprise: Product Launch at Internet World

CHICAGO, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Verity, Inc., (Nasdaq:VRTY), a leading provider of search and retrieval applications for the enterprise and the Internet, today announced the immediate
availability of IntelliServ, a web-based knowledge management application tightly integrated with Microsoft Windows NT Server. IntelliServ is an integrated knowledge management application
providing information cataloging, user profiling, ad-hoc query and enterprise dissemination all in one shrinkwrapped product. The product, which is now shipping, will be showcased at a press briefing
hosted by Verity on Thursday, July 24 at Internet World, McCormick Place, Chicago.

Ready to run out of the box, IntelliServ goes beyond typical ``push'' broadcast applications by narrowcasting, providing fine-grained information retrieval to ensure that users receive the most
relevant information. Using any popular Web browser, users establish personal and group information profiles. IntelliServ stores the profiles and uses Verity's SEARCH'97 technology to identify, categorize, and monitor information residing on the enterprise intranet, including file and Web servers, databases, Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange servers. When new information matching a
profile enters the intranet, users are notified by email, ticker, pager or custom Web page. Users can be notified in real time or IntelliServ can build Web page summaries which are sent hourly, daily,
weekly or at other intervals specified by the user. The system also supports full user-initiated ad hoc search across all relevant information sources.

``Professionals throughout our company rely on efficient access to the firm's key knowledge databases,'' said John Peetz, CKO at Ernst & Young. ``Verity's IntelliServ is playing a major role in accomplishing this by indexing, filtering, categorizing, and delivering the information that makes up the collective institutional memory of our organization.''

Victory Services in Atlanta has been using IntelliServ as a knowledge management solution to connect independent, but related financial services companies. ``We are trying to link groups all over the world together into an integrated communications network,'' said Joel David, Vice President of Victory Services. ``IntelliServ is helping us achieve this by keeping us on top of new information and
allowing us to share knowledge throughout the enterprise worldwide in a way that ensures consistency.''

``Our research shows that intranets are here to stay as a primary conduit for corporate digital knowledge,'' said Hadley Reynolds, research director at Delphi Consulting Group. ``The issue at
hand is who will step forward to supply new software for delivering the data and document collections directly into the business process. With IntelliServ, Verity is clearly addressing this need and creating a practical gateway technology to business information.''

``There is a tremendous need in organizations struggling with information overload,'' said David Weld, president of the applications business unit at Verity. ``The release of IntelliServ underscores
Verity's commitment to provide a solution by offering a product that allows users to spend less time looking for information and more time analyzing enterprise knowledge and moving from knowledge to action.''
